Manual Driving Lessons in Edinburgh with Nia

Who are you and what do you do?

I'm Nia and I've been an Approved Driving Instructor since May 2023. I passed my driving test in 1990 and I have always enjoyed driving. I became a member of The Institute of Advanced Motorists (now renamed Roadsmart) 30 years ago.

I completed the Bright Coaching Professional Diploma in Coaching and Behavioural Change for Safe Driving in June 2025.

I have completed a course with Roadsafety GB on The Ageing Driver.
I believe that keeping yourself up to date is very important, and I always aim to undertaken at least 70 hours of Continued Professional Development (CPD) every year.

"I can’t recommend Nia Williams enough! When I started learning to drive, I had never been behind the wheel before and was genuinely afraid to get on the road. On top of that, I had to adjust to driving on the opposite side of the road from what I was used to, which made things even more challenging. Learning in my 30s wasn’t easy, but Nia was incredibly patient and supportive throughout the whole process. She created a calm and safe learning environment, which gave me the confidence to build my skills at my own pace. Nia’s focus on safety was outstanding — she always made sure I understood the key points, and even now, after passing my test, I still remember these things. If you’re looking for an instructor who is professional, reassuring, and genuinely cares about her students’ progress, Nia is the perfect choice!"

What is the best thing about being a driving instructor?

It's so satisfying to help someone achieve their goal of being a safe and confident driver.

What is the best advice you could give your learners?

Celebrate the things you do well in your lessons and learn from the mistakes. We all do them.

What do you like to do when you're not working?

I relax by walking my dog Artie and spending time with my husband and three adult children. As a proud Welsh Woman, originally from North Wales, I decided to improve my Welsh Language skills a few years ago. I really enjoy my once a week welsh lessons over the internet through Bangor University.

One interesting fact about you...

I'm pretty good with a majorette baton. Misspent youth...bring on those twirls!

"Learning to drive with Nia was honestly a great experience. She's super kind, patient and just makes the whole process way less stressful. She made me feel at ease and always had a way of explaining things that made actual sense. I always left lessons feeling more confident behind the wheel. Thanks Nia!"
