My name is Pauline Martin, based in Glasgow. I work in Southside & South Lanarkshire. I’m patient and approachable with a background in supporting people with complex needs. My experience has equipped me with the ability to communicate effectively at many levels, ensuring that every learner feels understood, supported, and confident throughout their journey. We adapt lessons to suit each individual, helping learners feel comfortable, confident, and in control. Alongside work with learners, I’ve recently taken on a Training Manager role, where I coach and mentor new instructors to deliver high-quality lessons.
Before retraining to become a driving instructor, I worked for over 20 years in the voluntary sector, where i managed and trained teams to support people with complex needs living in homeless accommodation or in the community.

The most interesting part of being a driving instructor is variety! From early learners taking on a new venture, to helping people regain their confidence and independence. I work with a variety of clients, including those requiring refresher or motorway lessons, often supporting drivers who are overcoming anxiety or returning to driving after significant life changes. Enabling someone to safely regain their independence is highly fulfilling.
What is the best advice you could give your learners?
Take your time and don’t compare yourself to others - everyone learns at their own pace. Focus on steady progress and don’t be afraid to make mistakes, as that’s where the best learning happens. We will help get you to test but more importantly equip you with the skills and confidence you need for a lifetime of safe driving.
What do you like to do when you're not working?
I enjoy spending time with family & friends, as well as getting out and about to recharge. I often travel to be with our families in The Western Isles & Ireland - a good balance between work and downtime so I can bring positive energy into my lessons.
One interesting fact about you...
I nearly drowned twice before learning to swim, and now my daughter swims for City of Glasgow.
"I can’t recommend Pauline Martin at Caledonian LDT highly enough. I started learning to drive at 45 and was quite nervous, but Pauline’s calm, patient and supportive coaching style completely put me at ease. She teaches you how to drive properly, not just how to pass a test. From my first lesson to passing in December 2025 (the best Christmas present!), and even returning recently to learn motorway skills, Pauline has been fantastic throughout. I also really appreciated her flexibility — I had to take a break from lessons and later swap days on my return, which she accommodated without question. I would highly recommend Pauline to anyone, but she was exactly what I needed as a nervous, mature learner, creating a genuinely supportive and encouraging environment throughout. Thanks Pauline!"
