Who are you and what do you do?
Hi, my name's Gus and I've been a Driving Instructor for close on 23 years now, hard to believe when I actually sit down and think about it! I completed my training all those years ago with Caledonian and I'm still enjoying going to work every day, helping folk achieve their driving goals and ultimately contribute to putting conscientious, safe drivers on the road.

What is the best thing about being a driving instructor?
The best thing about being a Driving Instructor is striving to keep up the standards, motivating and pushing pupils to strive to be the best they can be, so ultimately they pick up their driving licence, armed with all the tools they need for a lifetime of safe driving. Nothing beats the buzz of seeing a pupil succeed, and what it means to them.
What is the best advice you could give your learners?
 The best advice I could give students is to get a proper night's sleep before their lesson, especially if it's an early start. Come into the lesson determined to get better,  ask questions, get involved properly in the lesson, as this will definitely increase the rate of learning and the level of confidence also. Lastly, make sure you enjoy the lesson, take what you can from the debrief and take it on to the next lesson. Nothing can stop you if you stay focused and armed with positivity!
What do you like to do when you're not working?
When I'm not working I enjoy getting away in my campervan, disappearing into the hills for a day or 3, generally recharging the batteries!
I don't mind a wee night in the local either, watching some live music, washed down with a Corona or 2!
One interesting fact about you...
I was born on my Mum's birthday, what a lovely present she got that day!!
"Gus is a 1st class instructor. He even did a pre first lesson house visit to put my son's mind at ease and explain the long term plans. Gus is polite, approachable and highly professional. He gave us a briefing before each lesson and in most cases a debrief afterwards. Gus was always prompt for his lessons and was very flexible to our ever changing situation. On that subject, Gus was always prompt to respond to messages so you are never left hanging. He has taught my son not just to pass a test, but in real terms how to drive confidently.
