Who are you and what do you do?
My name is John. I have been in hospitality for many years and have decided to make a rewarding career change to become a driving instructor. I am a Trainee Driving Instructor, delivering manual lessons in the East End of Glasgow.
I chose to train with Caledonian due to the first impression the company gave. I have worked for some big companies, but the 'top brass' rarely remember where they came from and would let their management front any communications or business. Stewart, the MD, contacted me and set up the zoom call which immediately put me at ease when I was frustrated with the training I had received from another company. I was impressed, and then communications with other members of the teams have been nothing but positive. Over and above that the flexible franchise package is a great deal!

What is the best thing about being a driving instructor?
Best thing about being a driving instructor is the satisfaction you get when you have helped your students gain new skills and confidence. I enjoy using my people skills which I gained from hospitality to make students feel at ease. But the best thing for me personally will be the freedom to build my own diary of clients and allow me the time to spend with my wife and granddaughter, that my previous career did not allow.
What is the best advice you could give your learners?
Best advice I would give my students would to be patient. Learning to drive takes time and with an instructor who has the ability to work with you in a calm professional friendly environment the journey will be enjoyable.
What do you like to do when you're not working?
When I'm not working I like to enjoy family time, watch cooking programmes for recipes that I will probably never cook and watch recordings of Snooker that I try to catch up on before anyone tells me the result!
One interesting fact about you...
I used to be into fast cars but the Corsa has put that to bed! I feel much younger on the inside than I look on the outside!
