Hi! My name’s Stuart Masterton, and I’m a Trainee Driving Instructor with Caledonian covering the South Side of Glasgow. After several years in education including a spell as a teacher, I decided to become a Driving Instructor. My favourite part of teaching was always working directly with pupils, helping them find the best way to learn and improve. This led me to Caledonian, where the emphasis is more about how to learn and grow as a driver, beyond simply getting you to “test standard”.

The best thing is seeing pupils improve their skills, grow in confidence, and grow towards reaching their goals in driving. Especially seeing a pupil find the way to overcome a specific challenge.
What is the best advice you could give your learners?
My best advice to any student would be “always learn”: not simply “always be ready to learn”, but recognise that there’s something new pretty much every time you drive, and you can take something from it. I’ve been driving now for over 30 years, and there’s still things that make me think anew every time I’m on the road.
What do you like to do when you're not working?
Asides from driving and volunteering work, I do wildlife photography in my spare time. It’s usually birds, but in the past year I’ve also been spending more time watching otters on the Clyde.
One interesting fact about you...
