Who are you and what do you do?
I’m Lorna Gillespie, an ADI from Cardross. I offer manual driving lessons in West Dunbartonshire and the Helensburgh areas. Having worked as a Primary Teacher, I chose Caledonian DT because they offer training opportunities which will enable me to continue to learn and support the needs of all learners. Â
What is the best thing about being a driving instructor?
When a student passes their driving test, you see the absolute joy on their face. That’s a great feeling.  However, it's the mix of learning styles and finding the right way to unlock people’s abilities. When that breakthrough happens and I see the moment someone “gets it” or I feel their self-belief and confidence begin to develop, that's a really powerful motivator for me.Â
What is the best advice you could give your learners?
Believe in yourself. Most learners have a challenge to overcome and everyone’s driving journey is different. Be curious and ask questions. We’ll work together to achieve your goal.
What do you like to do when you're not working?
I love spending time with my family. We converted a VW and so I take any opportunity to have time away in our campervan. I look forward to long walks on Troon beach with our dogs or heading off to a festival with my hubby.
One interesting fact about you...
I really enjoy driving and the freedom it has afforded me and my family, especially when my children were growing up. I’ll have a go at driving any vehicle from an HGV, to my brother’s motorbikes. However, the highlight during an off-road event, was having the chance to drive a tank. That was great fun!
